Naruto Episide 035 Absolutely no Peeking! The Secret of the Scroll
The episode begins as the fourth day (out of five) during the Chuunin exam, with Naruto and Sasuke finding their meals for the day while fishing. The team of three begins to worry about their placement in the exam as there are only 25 to 26 hours left to find another scroll, however in this exam, only 13 out of the 26 teams may pass. In this case, many teams may have already finished. After Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura begin to feel desperation, Naruto makes a plan to “make” their own scroll of Heaven in order to complete their task; all this while Sasuke leaves to get some water.
Naruto plans to “predict” what must be put into the fake scroll of Heaven, by trying to read what is in their scroll of Earth.
However, two members from another team, seem to have become desperate as well, and open their scroll, revealing the trap that had been warned against at the beginning of the exam. Their punishment leaves them unable to complete this second part of the Exam through paralysis-inducing writing, leaving their last comrade by himself.
Luckily for Naruto and Sakura, Kabuto stops them just as Naruto begins to peel open the scroll; and Kabuto tells them of the real dangers that await those who try to cheat by opening the scroll. Kabuto becomes a prime target for Naruto’s group because Kabuto already holds both scrolls, allowing him to pass, as Sasuke says. Yet, Kabuto, offers to help the trio find their own scroll, while keeping an eye on a well-hidden enemy in the brush.
Kabuto’s plan is to lay in wait around the Exam building for those who are unsuspectingly heading to the tower with both scrolls; but the only down-side is that there are also other teams who have thought about this plan as well. Because of this, Naruto and company need to be that much more careful.
The jungle around the tower is a dark and dangerous place, as Kabuto first mentioned; and the team is feeling it, as they are startled by a giant caterpillar which Naruto quickly does away with. Naruto’s team then begins to trek through the ominous jungle, while cloaking, walking through high grass, swimming, and in Naruto’s case, getting stuck in tree vines. The team, plus Kabuto, soon finds traps that were set by the other teams, along with those who have been already lured into successful traps. However, before the group knows it, they have been lured into a Genjutsu, tricking them into walking around in circles (tiring them out), which is indicated by the team ending up where Naruto had first killed the giant caterpillar.
The Genjustsu-using enemies finally surface in the form of clones, which have already surrounded the unsuspecting team. This battle for the last scroll looks as if it will be one of their hardest.
